Vice President of the European Parliament Rainer Wieland visits Walter Roller GmbH in Gerlingen

The Vice-President of the European Parliament in Strasbourg and Chairman of the Presidium Working Group on Buildings, Rainer Wieland (CDU), was a guest at Walter Roller GmbH in Gerlingen on 17 January 2022 and informed himself among other things about the challenges of modern cooling technology in building services engineering.

Rainer Wieland was welcomed by managing shareholder Joachim Reule and managing director Wolfgang Krenn, who jointly lead the company.

As Chairman of the regional group of CDU Members of Parliament from Baden-Württemberg, Mr Wieland represents the Stuttgart administrative district in the European Parliament. As part of his responsibilities as Chairman of the Presidium Working Group on Buildings and Infrastructure, he regularly informs himself about the economic situation of the companies in his election district and about the current challenges in building technology.

The talks focused on concrete measures taken by politics and industry to jointly face up to climate change. Mr. Wieland was enthusiastic about the courage and innovative strength of Roller, which since 2012 has been the first manufacturer on the market to offer its air coolers equipped with energy-saving EC fans. In this way, a significant reduction in energy consumption has been achieved for years.

The topic of heat recovery, in which existing waste heat from buildings, machines or production processes is made usable again via heat exchangers produced by Roller, also makes a significant contribution to reducing energy consumption.

There was also agreement on the increasingly important topic of obsolescence management, i.e. keeping ageing products usable through long-term reparability and the stocking of spare parts. The background here is a debate in the EU Parliament in November 2020 on how products can be designed more sustainably with legal requirements and thus avoid environmental pollution in the long term. In this area, too, Roller has been a pioneer in the industry for a long time. This is perfectly described by the colloquial expression of relevant trade businesses: Refrigeration systems with Roller evaporator - switch on and hear no more about it!

Since the beginning of the production of air coolers, Roller has made it possible, among other things, to precisely replace components that are subject to normal wear and tear or are sometimes damaged during operation. For example, if a fan fails, the original fan type can be replaced with the new, current generation, 1:1, without any major adjustments. In addition, the air cooler is upgraded in its efficiency class, as AC fans are replaced with the energy-saving EC fans described above.

And thus Mr. Wieland then also summed up at the end of the conversation: "Only innovative companies that pursue high quality standards and can optimally adapt to the legislative requirements and the needs of the market will remain competitive in the long term."
